Senior Bags
Of the over 38,063 individuals the Brazos Valley Food Bank
helped feed in 2007, over 4,680 were seniors.
Having spent their lives working hard, these seniors are now retired, on a fixed income and are at risk of spending their last years hungry.
With a generous grant of $30,000 from the Beaumont Foundation of America, Inc. and $10,000 from the Clifton C. and Henryetta C. Doak Charitable Trust, the Brazos Valley Food Bank is doing all it can to ensure that the most at risk seniors in the Brazos Valley
can eat more than one meal a day.
Partnering with the Brazos Valley Community Action Agency’s (BVCAA) Meal on Wheels program,
the Brazos Valley Food Bank helps ensure that 150 Senior Bags are provided to the neediest
Meal on Wheels recipients in Brazos, Burleson, Grimes and Robertson Counties.

These bags, filled with 12 nutritionally balanced easy-to-prepare items, supplement the daily hot meal they receive from Meals on Wheels. These Senior Bags provide food for the evenings and weekends, when these senior may be going without.

Unfortunately, for each senior who receives a bag, there are 3 more that could use it.
